Member contribution notes - Shareshop held in May 2024 re: Applying our 3 focus areas (Cost, Care workers and Culture) to the experience of the customers/ residents/ clients/older persons/users in our care using their journey to guide us – Considering: Moving in -Part 1
Assessments:
- Value of social work and occupational therapy assessments to provide more specific information.
- Reviewed 'DQ98' forms available to members in Best Practices. Reminder: not an official review, but all DQ98 information were included in reviewed format. (Members to share forms they use.)
- 'Admissions' (Joining) policy: A clear and complete policy attending to all aspects required. Legal, medical, -financial, etc. (members to share examples they use)
- Temporary placement: If appropriateness of placement is unclear, consider a temporary placement with re-assessment.
- Survey of process: Survey one month after individual has moved in regarding the process and how it can be improved.
- Legislative Acts: 43 Acts apply to our sector. Unfortunately, SA Laws are not harmonised, which makes it risky. Be clear on the content of especially Consumers Protection Act, POPI Act and Rental Housing Act. Integrate these into your system.
- Syd Eckley shared advice from Judge J Kollapen: Take your initiatives, do whatever you can. Proof that you have gone the full circle to protect the right of the older individual upfront. Do not expect lawyers and magistrates to solve our problems. Main responsibility lies with us."
- Some resources available to help with content of contracts etc. (?TPN)
Project Scaffold 'dream' to draft a proforma Joining/ Moving in (Admission) form compiled from the best practices from all the members.
Members to add more notes of what was shared as well as examples of resources, forms and suggestions.
